Lancelot’s features & methods of play

Find out how our AI plays!

Welcome to our webpage dedicated to the features of FunBelote AI ‘Lancelot’ which plays with or against you depending on the game mode selected:

  • In multiplayer mode, Lancelot gives you a hand only if a player happens to be missing at the table or needs to leave it early so that you can always finish your game.
  • In practice mode, Lancelot is your partner in North and your opponents are sitting East/West.

AI ‘LANCELOT’, BELOTE MASTER

Lancelot as your partner

When you are playing with Lancelot as your partner in North, the AI always plays at its best, i.e. ‘Master’ level.

Lancelot as your opponent

But when you are playing against Lancelot, your opponents’ skill level depends on the level of the game mode selected.

For example, if you are in the game mode ‘Practice – Standard’, your opponents will play at a standard level and won’t behave in the same way as they would if you were playing in the game mode ‘Practice – Difficult, Expert or Master’.

TAKING & ANNOUNCEMENT RULES

To find out if it has to take the face-up card or make a particular bid, Lancelot follows a number of clearly defined rules listed below.

Classic belote

Lancelot will take if he holds such hands:

  • 9xxx
  • 9KQ / Jxxx
  • Jx + 1 Ace

Coinche

To take when its team announced 80 points, Lancelot’s hand must match one of the following types:

  • 9KQx / Jxxx / 9xxx + 1 ace
  • J9x / JA10 / JKQ
  • Jxx + 1 ace / 9xx + 2 aces or A-10
  • Jx + 2 aces / J9 + 1 ace

To take when its team announced 90 points, it needs (trump J9):

  • J9xx
  • J9x + 1 ace
  • J9 + 2 aces or A-10

To take when its team announced 100 points, it needs (3 losers):

  • J9xx + 1 ace or 10xx
  • J9A + 2 aces or A-10

To take when its team announced 110 points, it needs (2 losers):

  • J9xx + 2 aces or A-10
  • J9A + 3 aces / J9A + 1 ace + A-10

Lancelot bids on in competitive bidding:

  • As Lancelot’s partner, if you make a jump bid, Lancelot bids on and announces 10 points more per ace with at least one trump.
  • If you make a non-jump bid, Lancelot bids on and announces 10 points more per ace with the Jack or 9 + 10.

If you make a simple overcall and opponents don’t bid on, in response Lancelot bids higher:

  • +10 with Jx/9x (up to 110) (+10 per ace)
  • +10 with Jxx/9xx (up to 120) (+10 per ace or void)

If you make a simple opening bid or overcall and opponents bid on, Lancelot bids higher at the minimum level (120 maximum) with:

  • Belote (up to 110) (+10 per ace)
  • J/9x (up to 110) (+10 per ace)
  • At least 2 trumps and 1 ace (up to 100) (+10 per ace)
  • 3 trumps (up to 100) + 1 ace (+10 per ace)
  • 4 trumps (up to 110) (+10 per ace)

Lancelot’s responses to opening bids:

  • If you announce 80 points and Lancelot has (bare) J or 9x, it bids on and announces 10 + 10 points more per non-trump ace.
  • On an opening bid of 90/100, Lancelot bids on and announces 10 points more per non-trump ace with at least one trump.
  • On an opening bid of 110+, Lancelot bids on and announces 10 points more per non-trump ace even with no trump.

Lancelot’s suit shifts:

  • To shift to announcing 90 points on an opening bid of 80, Lancelot needs to have the Jack as well as the equivalent of an opening bid of 80 and a void in partner’s suit.
  • To shift to announcing 100+ points on an opening bid of 80, Lancelot must have an equivalent opening bid.
  • To shift on an opening bid of 80+, Lancelot must have the equivalent of an opening bid at the same level in the new suit.
